August 14 Thoughts From the Kitchen Table
Are we tired?
Prior to the time that Pastor Bruce began his message this morning a little girl probably not more that 3 years old made a very innocent yet profound statement – in words only a child would dare speak – “I’m tired of this”. Ah, the innocence and honesty of a child! Several people who heard it chuckled a bit, but as I think back on it now, how many adults in this room, if honest, were thinking the same thing.
If honest, are we silently asking the same question – Are we also tired? Are we also tired of hearing from the book of Revelation. Are we guilty of thinking – “haven’t we heard this before?”
It’s interesting, I’m sure that Pastor Bruce did not hear the little girl make that comment, yet he alluded to our unspoken tiredness, our unspoken frustration, only a few minutes into the message. A few minutes into the message he spoke about how “in his flesh”, “ he wanted to be done with it” Even if our thoughts are unspoken, Pastor Bruce feels our pain, our tiredness. He knows our pain, but…
As much as he feels our pain, as much as he knows that we all want to be done with it – he simply won’t and can’t quit. Why, because that is what God is calling him to do, and because of the burden that he has in his heart for each one of us.
Thank you Pastor Bruce for being faithful to your calling, thank you for teaching and preaching that which God has for us to hear (even if we may not want to listen), and that which God has for us to heed.
Are we tired of listening? Are we being honest with ourselves? What do we want to hear vs. what do we need to hear?
Pastor Bruce reminded us again some of the reasons why we need to hear – that here in Revelation we read the entire story of salvation, we are reminded of the conflict of God and Satan, and there His Word reminds us of the power of Satan in our lives. Pastor Bruce, through God’s Word also reminds us that, in spite of the ongoing battle, in the end it is God who has already claimed victory. The Book of Revelation tells us about that victory.
Please always be mindful that – when we believe in, put our faith in Christ, Satan has absolutely no power in our lives.
Again, thanks, Pastor Bruce for your faithfulness to His Word, and to faithfulness to us.
